    FINAL PREPARATIONS WERE BEING MADE YESTERDAY (THURSDAY) AT THE SAHLENBURG ROCKET LAUNCHING CENTRE, NEAR CUXHAVEN, FOR THE FIRING OF WEST GERMANY'S FIRST THREE-STAGE ROCKET.

    AT MIDDAY, AN EXPLORATORY WEATHER ROCKET HAD BEEN SENT UP TO DETERMINE METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS.WITH ALL DATA SATISFACTORY, HERR BERTHOLD SELINGER, OF THE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT SOCIETY OF ORSOY ON THE RHINE, MADE THE THREE-STAGE MISSILE READY FOR ITS AFTERNOON LAUNCHING.

    EQUIPPED WITH A TRANSMITTER AND POWERED BY SOLID FUEL, THE 5-METRE ROCKET IS GERMANY'S FIRST CONTRIBUTION TO THE EXPLORATION OF SPACE.

    IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE LAUNCHING, THE OBSERVATORY AT BOCHUM - MONITORING THE FLIGHT - ANNOUNCED THAT EVERYTHING WAS GOING TO PLAN AND THAT RECEPTION ON ALL INSTRUMENTS WAS PERFECT.

    THE ROCKET REACHED AN ALTITUDE OF 100 KILOMETRES.BUNDESWEHR UNITS WITH ARMOURED CARS AND MOBILE TRANSCEIVER STATIONS FOR THE FIRST TIME STOOD BY TO GIVE "STARTING AID" FOR A GERMAN ROCKET PROJECT.

    HERR SELINGER, LATER TOLD REPORTERS THE ROCKET'S THIRD STAGE WAS POWERED BY A "COMPLETELY NEW" TYPE OF MOTOR.
