    MR. WHYLIE, FORMERLY INFORMATION OFFICER FOR THE JAMAICAN HIGH COMMISSIONER IN LONDON, WILL LINK RADIO PROGRAMMES AT FIRST, AND LATER READ NEWS BULLETINS. WITH ANOTHER NEW ANNOUNCER, MR. WHYLIE WAS CHOSEN FROM MORE THAN 1,000 APPLICANTS.

    MR. WHYLIE, WHO LIVES IN BATTER SEA, SOUTH LONDON, WAS EDUCATED AT KINGSTON COLLEGE, JAMAICA, AND THE UNIVERSITY OF THE WEST INDIES. HE WAS AN ANNOUNCER-PRODUCER WITH RADIO JAMAICA AND CHIEF ANNOUNCER WITH THE JAMAICA BROADCASTING CORPORATION.

    A SPOKESMAN FOR THE B.B.C. SAID THE APPOINTMENT DID NOT MARK ANY CHANGE IN POLICY. IT WAS SIMPLY THAT MR. WHYLIE WAS THE BEST MAN FOR THE JOB.
