  • Description

In the suburb of ELIZABETH BAY in SYDNEY this afternoon, a kitten fell sixty-feet when within inches of rescue -- but it survived the fall. The kitten was crying on a ledge sixty-feet up a hundred-foot cliff, and Sergeant HARRY WARE, of the Police Cliff Rescue Squad, managed to get to within inches of the kitten -- under the eyes of a battery of cameraman. But the kitten took fright, clawed its way along the ledge, lost its last foothold and fell sixty-feet.

The kitten also, presumably, lost one of its nine lives -- and was inclined to take it out on Sergeant WARE, who donned heavy gauntlets to handle it. The kitten had been crying on the narrow ledge since late on Saturday. The Cliff Rescue Squad was called in today by the R.S.P.C.A. And the kitten, after its record high jump, was taken to the R.S.P.C.A. this afternoon by Sergeant WARE.
