The proceeds were used to pay the fines; the remainder was turned over to the Amish fathers.

    Background: Background: A group of Iowa Amish had been educating their children in their own Amish school. The Iowa school board ordered that either the Amish install a state certified teacher in their school (at Amish expense) or send the kids to public school. The Amish refused to do either. Therefore the Amish were tried, found guilty, and fines. The fines continued each day the offense continues.
