    SYRIAN AUTHORITIES YESTERDAY (MONDAY) RELEASED THE FOUR ISRAELI WOMEN DETAINED IN DAMASCUS WHEN THE TRANS-WORLD AIRLINER ON WHICH THEY WERE TRAVELLING WAS HIJACKED THERE ON FRIDAY (29 AUGUST). THEY WERE FLOWN TO TEL-AVIV VIA ATHENS, BUT TWO ISRAELI MEN PASSENGERS ARE STILL HELD IN SYRIA.

    MRS. VICTORIA SHAMASH (AGED 61) FROM TEL-AVIV, SAID THEIR DETENTION IN SYRIA HAD BEEN UNNERVING, BUT THEY HAD NOT BEEN BADLY TREATED. SHE SAID SHE FELT ILL WHILE IN DAMASCUS AND SHOVED NEWSMEN AT LYDDA AIRPORT THE MARKS ON HER ARM WHERE SHE HAD BEEN GIVEN INJECTIONS BY SYRIAN MEDICAL STAFF. SHE HAD BEEN CARRIED TO THE CHARTERED ITALIAN AIRCRAFT ON A STRETCHER.

    THE OLDEST OF THE FOUR, MRS. CADEN ARDITTI (AGED 63), FROM TEL-AVIV, LOOKED NEAR EXHAUSTION AS SHE WAS GREETED BY HER RELATIVES AT THE AIRPORT.

    MRS. HAVA FREUD (AGED 42) WAS EMBRACED BY HER HUSBAND AS SHE ARRIVED WITH HER 15-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER DALIA. ASKED ABOUT THE TWO MEN STILL IN SYRIA, DALIA FREUD SAID THE SYRIANS HAD NOT TOLD THEN WHAT WOULD HAPPEN TO THE TWO MEN. SHE SAID THEY WERE SEPARATED FROM THE OTHER PASSENGERS AS SOON AS THEY REACHED DAMASCUS, AND THEY HAD NOT SEEN THEN SINCE.
