Israel is continuing to shell Palestinian strongholds in southern Lebanon. The last major Israeli artillery?
Israel is continuing to shell Palestinian strongholds in southern Lebanon. The last major Israeli artillery attack was on Wednesday (20 June). A number of people were killed in the port of Tyre and around the market town of Nabatiyeh.
SYNOPSIS: This is the village of Haboush, near Nabatiyeh. It was extensively damaged by Israeli shelling. The state-run Beirut radio reported that the whole of the Nabatiyeh area was under 'fierce' artillery fire and that casualties were being rushed to government hospitals. Radio Israel in turn reported that a number of Israeli settlements had been hit by Palestinian rocket fire.
Reuters reported on Wednesday (20 June)that Palestinian sources predict another escalation in the cross border violence, following Israeli reports of Palestinian artillery concentrations in southern Lebanon. Radio Israel claimed that Palestinian commandos were deploying about seventy artillery units near the border, which were capable of hitting targets deep in Israeli territory. Reuters reports that such Israeli claims are usually followed by artillery and air strikes against Palestinian positions.
