    Storage tanks containing a million gallons of petrol exploded early yesterday (April 6) at the refinery at Doraville, a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia.

    Two workman at the refinery were killed, and four people in nearby houses were injured, three of them critically. There hundred homes were evacuated and the blast was felt up to ten miles away.

    Earth dikes were built to contain the blaze and protect firemen from the intense heat. The authorities say it will be several days before the fire is out, and the people who were evacuated can go back to their homes. The damage to the refinery is put at about four million dollars.

    SYNOPSIS: A giant petrol tank goes up in smoke at a refinery at Atlanta, Georgia. Several hundred firemen were called to fight the blaze, and try to stop it spreading to the other tanks on the site.

    Several firemen were injured or overcome by smoke and heat. None of them was badly hurt, but three people living nearby were critically injured.
