Congress Oasty of West Bengal seized upon the arrest of India's former Prime Minister to gather its cadres and organise itself. About three to five thousand them marched towards the Governor's House carrying an effigy of the Home Minister Mr. Charan Singh. They shouted slogans demanding freedom for Mrs. Gandhi and end to dictatorship of Charan Singh (India's Minister for Home Affairs)'. And at the Esplanade East (the area outside the Governor's house), the demonstrators kept struggling to be arrested, but the police though keeping arrest vans ready just did not arrest them and allowed them to shout themselves hoarse. Ten came the burning of the effigy. Agitated demonstrators beat the burning effigy with sticks and shoes. A former Minister of West Bengal Mr. SUBROTO MUKERJEE also another Minister Mr. NASKAR addressed the crowd from ??? The demonstrators of the Party belonged to pro-Indira Gandhi ??? of the Congress party in West Bengal. Not able absentees from the demonstration were all the leaders of the Congress Party in West Bengal including the former Chief Minister Mr. S.S. Ray one time close ally of Mrs. Gandhi.
