  • Description

India were off to a splendid start after captain Pataudi had won the toss for the fourth consecutive time in the current series between India and MCC. The fourth Test match opened at the Willingdon Pavillion of New Delhi crowded by mist, cold and dull weather. Openers Jaisimha and Kunderam gave a bright start with a opening stand f 81 when Kundream was bowled of his pads by Titmus.

The British and Indian teams awaited anxiously the arrival of Prime Minister Nehru, who was expected to watch the match. Mr. Nehru arrived after the match has started and was there for about an hour before he left. The whole grounds stood up in applause and the game was held up for about five minutes. This is Mr. Nehru's first appearance apart from attending the Republic Day after his sickness harnesses during the Bhubhneswar session of the Congress. (detailed press clipping enclosed).
