Background: This film is believed to be the first taken in Dacca since the expulsion of foreign correspondents at the end of March following the proclamation of martial law in East Pakistan.

The cameraman was an official West Pakistan man, and VISNEWS was told in an advisory cable that the film shows life back to normal int eh city. No further details were given, but the cameraman apparently went to Dacca from Karachi at the beginning of April.

SYNOPSIS: An official film taken in Dacca claims life is apparently back to normal after the proclamation of martial law and heavy fighting during the civil war in East Pakistan. Traffic seemed to carry on as before in the city which expelled all correspondents when the trouble first began.

Along Jinnah Avenue, the main street in Dacca, rickshaws apparently run where troops and armoured vehicles had been reported only days ago. Even a fortune teller was back in business on the streets of Dacca
Elsewhere in the city, open shops and street vendors supplied goods to the shoppers. This official film shows people buying drinks, vegetables and powered milk from the shops, which according to the film, have been open for some days.

Public transport was said to be running normally, and the city streets are reported quiet and orderly following the recent trouble.
