Background: The coffee and cocoa industries of the Congolese People's Republic will get an injection of 750 million dollars in development money.

SYNOPSIS: The agreement covering this aid was signed at a conference of the African Development Bank and the African Land Development organisation in Libreville, the capital of Gabon on May the first. The President of Gabon, El Hadj Omar Bongo, opened the conference in the city's international conference palace. Coffee and cocoa have for years ranked ninth and tenth, with static production, in the Congo's agriculture.

President Bongo told the meeting, of delegates from sixty-six countries in Africa, Europe, North America and the Middle East, that the African Development Bank should make its capital available to countries outside Africa. He said that, if this did not happen, there would be a gradual decline in the bank, to the detriment of all member countries.
