    PRESIDENT BONGO OF GABON YESTERDAY (THURSDAY) BEGAN AN OFFICIAL VISIT TO THE IVORY COAST. HE IS TO HAVE DISCUSSIONS WITH THE IVORY COAST LEADER, PRESIDENT FELIX HOUPHOUET-BOIGNY.

    THE GABON HEAD OF STATE WAS WELCOMED AT PORT BOUET AIRPORT BY PRESIDENT HOUPHOUET-BOIGNY.

    PRESIDENT BONGO IS BEING ACCOMPANIED DURING HIS VISIT BY HIS VICE-PRESIDENT, MR. LEON MEBIAME, THE GABON FINANCE MINISTER, MR. AUGUSTIN BOUMAH, AND MINISTER FOR ECONOMIC AFFAIRS, MR. EMILE KASSA MAP' SSY.

    SEVERAL HUNDRED PEOPLE WERE AT THE AIRPORT TO WITNESS PRESIDENT BONGO'S ARRIVAL. THE CUSTOMARY FORMALITIES INCLUDED THE INSPECTION OF A GUARD OF HONOUR AND THE SINGING OF THE NATIONAL ANTHEMS OF GABON AND THE IVORY COAST.

    GABON AND THE IVORY COAST ARE AMONG FOUR AFRICAN STATES WHICH HAVE RECOGNISED BIAFRA. NEITHER PRESIDENT BONGO NOR PRESIDENT HOUPHOUET-BOIGNY ARE EXPECTED TO ATTEND THE MEETING OF THE ORGANISATION OF AFRICAN UNITY IN ALGIERS, WHERE THE NIGERIAN CIVIL WAR IS HIGH ON THE AGENDA.
