  • Description

Chief Defense Attorney Melvin Belli said Saturday (14 March) that the death penalty imposed on Jack Ruby by a Dallas jury had brought "shame" to the city.

But District Attorney Henry Wade, who successfully prosecuted Ruby for the murder of Lee Oswald, President Kennedy's Suspected assassin, said the verdict, which was returned after two hours and 19 minutes of deliberation, "advanced civilization."
Both men commented a few minutes after the jury returned its verdict.
