BUT FOR EDDIE REXTER, OF GLASGOW, SCOTLAND, AND ALAN NIXON, OF STOKE-ON-RANT, TWO BRITISH AIRMEN FORM RAF SELETAR (SINGAPORE), THURSDAY NIGHT IS CHARITY NIGHT.

HERE THEY PUT OUT ON SALE THE HANDICRAFTS OF THE INMATES OF A LEPER HOME.

FOR REXTER, WHO IS A CORPORAL WITH THE AIR FORCE, HIS CHARITY WORK IS SATISFYING.HE AND HIS PARTNER NIXON HAVE DEVELOPED A SPECIAL AFFECTION FOR THOSE OF THE HOME.NIXON IS A SENIOR AIRCRAFTSMAN WITH THE AIR FORCE.

IT ALL BEGAN SOME MONTHS AGO, WHEN THE WIVES OF THE TWO AIRMEN MADE FREQUENT VISITS TO THE HOME TAKING ALONG WITH THEM NEEDY ITEMS FOR THE INMATES.

IN RETURN THEY BROUGHT WITH THEM BASKETS AND HANDBAGS MADE BY THE INMATES FOR SALE AMONG THEIR FRIENDS.THE TWO AIRMEN THEN HIT UPON THE IDEA OF SELLING THE GOODS AT THE THURSDAY NIGHT MARKET.

THE PLAN WORKED SPLENDIDLY.AT FIRST THE COLLECTION WAS $171/- (MALAYAN), THEN IT ROSE TO $224/- PER MONTH.NOW THEY HAVE TO WORK FASTER TO MEET THE EXPANDING SALES.
