    With the various conference on a Middle East peace settlement beginning this week, (2 December) and the United Nations Secretary General proposing another, the debate in the United Nations on Palestine has taken on a special significance.

    SYNOPSIS: The Syrian representative, Mowaffak Allaf, during his address to the General Assembly, said his country would give the Secretary General all support. He said that Israel's rejection of the proposed U.N. sponsored conference showed that Israel was still trying to divide what he called the Arab confrontation forces. He said the Palestinians were the victims of the crime which set up the Zionist entity in Palestine. He asked how can we blame them, for rising up?
    Earlier in the day, delegated had heard a wide variety of views on the Palestinian question, and on the events during the previous fortnight in the Middle East. The delegate from Iraq, Counsellor Mohammed Al-Sahhas denounced President Sadat of Egypt for his visit to Jerusalem. Mr. Al-Sahhas said President Sadat had been shaking the hands of murderers. And he called the visit a blow against all the efforts of the United Nations.

    Israel's delegates, Chaim Hertzog, had spoken earlier.
