In London, a delegation of Japanese businessmen and the Japanese Ambassador to Britain, Mr. Tadao Kato, attended a ceremony officially handing over a gift of two million pounds from two Japanese companies to the London School of Economics. Mr. Kato first made an official speech which included a message from Japan's Prime Minister Mr. Takeo Fukuda.
SYNOPSIS: The official ceremony and the signing of the agreement took place in the Founders Room of the London School of Economics. The proceedings were presided over by Mr. Hugh Weldon, who is the chairman of the governing court of the London School of Economics. Apart from the Japanese Ambassador, the presidents of the two companies involved in the gift to the university were both at the signing, as was Professor Dahrendort who is director of the university. After the documents relating to the agreement were signed, they were officially exchanged, marking the start of the financial aid to the Economic Research Centre.
The ceremony was officially ended with a closing speech by professor Dahrendorf, who then proposed a toast.
