Background: Britain today (June 26) told a three-nation Asian peace mission on Cambodia that a new international conference could contribute significantly to the objective of seeking a negotiated settlement of the Indo-China conflict.

The mission-composed of top officials from Malaysia, Japan and Indonesia-met at the British Foreign Office with Sir Alec Douglas-Home, the new British Conservatives Foreign Secretary.

British officials said that Sir Alec confirmed that the resolutions of last month's Djakarta conference on Cambodia, which set up the mission, were in line with the British Government's Policy to seek a negotiated settlement involving the withdrawal of all external forces from the three countries concerned.

The peace group is being led by the Malaysian Foreign Ministry Permanent Secretary Tan Sri Muhammad Ghazali and includes Mr. Shinsaku Hogen, Vice-Foreign Minister of Japan, and Mr. Anwar Sani, Director of the Political Bureau of the Indonesian Foreign Ministry.

Prior to its visit to Britain the peace mission stopped for talks in the United States, the Soviet Union, India, Poland and France.
