Nigerian side Rangers International scored an impressive 4-0 victory over Electric Sports Club of Ethiopia in the first leg of their second round Third African Cup Winners cup-tie in Lagos on Sunday (1 May). The Nigerians won the game with a stunning first half performance in which they scored all their goals.

SYNOPSIS: Rangers, in the all-white strip, pressured the Ethiopians' defence relentlessly from the start. The skilful Electric players found the early pace too killing, as Rangers sought an early breakthrough.

Knowing they needed a good lead before they go on to the second leg in Addis Ababa, Rangers with captain Christian Chukwu, playing an inspired game, continued to harass the Ethiopians.

The 45,000 people in Lagos' sports city stadium had plenty to cheer about as the faster and stronger Rangers turned the opening minutes into a one-way game.

With Ogidi Ibeabuchi, Stanley Okoronkwo and Emeka Onyedika pushing forward, Rangers looked set to score when centre-forward Chimezie Ngadi sent this shot too high.

The breakthrough came almost immediately after when Ogidi Ibeabuchi centred and Ngadi latched onto the shot chest high to volley into the net, giving Electric keeper Estifanous Tsegaye little chance to save.

The goal whetted Rangers appetite for more, and they attacked relentlessly in an effort to add to their score. Ngadi, always dangerous, sent another shot too high after a fine pass from Okronkwo but he made sure next time when he finished off this build-up.

Rangers' next goal came after a devastating dribbling movement straight through the massed Ethiopian defence by Chukwu. He slipped the ball through to Alloysuis Atuegby who passed onto Ngadi who struck yet again in the 30th minute, to complete his hat-trick.

Despite a come-back later by the Ethiopians they were unable to make up the deficit. Rangers' scoring spree was climaxed by this brilliant free kick by Chukwu.
