  • Description

Wiegand Lichtenfels, a boy scout from West German, received a warm welcome from fellow scouts in Taiwan when he cycled into Taipei last week during a marathon round-the-world tour.

Wiegand has so far visited 31 countries in Europe and Asia since he first left home nearly two years ago. He said on arriving in Taiwan that he had tried to enter The People's Republic of china, but had been refused a permit.

Taiwan's Boy Scout movement made sure Wiegand's stay in Taipei was a memorable one. He was escorted on visits to the College of Chinese Culture and the National Palace Museum, where he saw many historic Chinese antiques. Then there was a trip to a scout camp at Mount Yangming, where the German visitor was given a particularly rowdy welcome from the cub contingent.

After his Taiwan visit was complete, Wiegand flew on to Japan and the United States to continue his cycling journey.
