II. What more fitting to start this magazine than the opening of the academic year at Lovanium University, the first in time in the Congo and the only University in Africa to posses a nuclear reactor.
On the occasion of this opening, Monsignor Malula, Archbishop of Kinshasa, President of the Academic Council, Monsignor Tshibangu the Vice-Rectorean Minister Djadi, Minister of Education, were present amongst numerous other personalities.;;..
They drew attention to the increasing pace at which the training of future leaders will serve the country and its truly authentic culture was progressing....the teaching staff includes already more than of Congolese members, on the same footing as their international colleagues, drawn from many countries, whilst more than 1,000 students are on the Lovanium University roll.....
III. Turning to the Official Congo University at Lubumbashi, celebrating its 10th birthday, the occasion, presided over by Minister Djadi, was seized by the eminent speakers to underline the vital task which President Mobutu has assigned to university students: that of creating structures befitting our culture within a framework of universal understanding....In front of a model of the new Institute of Applied Science, the Chief of State's representatives also took the opportunity to emphasise his desire to ensure that higher education facilities were available to the Congolese. The laying of the first stone by the Minister of National Education was evidence of this.....
