    THE FIVE-NATION ENTENTE COUNCIL HAS ENDED ITS TWO-DAY CONFERENCE IN ABIDJAN AND HEARD A REPORT FROM ONE OF ITS MEMBER-STATES -- TOGO -- ON THE COUP SITUATION.

    THE ENTENTE COUNCIL IS A LOOSE POLITICAL ORGANISATION GROUPING THE HOST NATION IVORY COAST, NIGER, TOGO, UPPER VOLTA AND DAHOMEY.

    AT THE MEETING WERE PRESIDENTS SANGOULE LAMIZANA (UPPER VOLTA), HAMANI DIORI (NIGER), CHRITOPHE SOGLO (DAHOMEY), FELIX HOUPHOUET-BOIGNY (IVORY COAST) AND MR. PIERRE ADOSSAMA, REPRESENTING THE TOGOLESE GOVERNMENT OF LIEUT-COLONEL EYADEMA. MR. ADOSSAMA WAS FORMERLY MINISTER OF LABOUR.

    THE COUNCIL EXPRESSED SATISFACTION THAT TOGO CONTINUED TO REMAIN A MEMBER AND THAT ALL MEMBERS HAD PAID THEIR CONTRIBUTION TO THE MUTUAL AID AND GUARANTEE FUND. THE FUND WAS SET UP TO ENABLE MEMBER COUNTRIES TO OBTAIN DEVELOPMENT LOANS ON BETTER TERMS.

    AMONG THE TOPICS DISCUSSED WERE ECONOMIC PROBLEMS CONCERNING ASSOCIATION WITH THE EUROPEAN COMMON MARKET, A PROPOSED FRENCH-SPEAKING COMMONWEALTH AND A MULTI-NATIONAL AFRICAN AIRLINE.
