Background: The body of Tun Abdul Razak, Malaysia's second Prime Minister, was flown back to his grief-stricken nation Thursday (January 15).

The new Prime Minister, Datuk Hussein Onn, sworn in only hours earlier, was waiting with the entire Cabinet as the Malaysian Airline plane touched down after its long flight from London.

Some 10,000 mourners who had packed the airport began weeping openly as the flag-draped coffin was brought down from the special plane by Malaysian armed forces at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Tun Razak's widow, Toh Puan Raha, who accompanied Tun Razak's body from London with three of her sons, was embraced by her sister, the wife of new Prime Minister Datuk Hussein.

Tun Razak, 53, Malaysia's second Prime Minister and an architect of the nation's independence from Britain in 1975, died in a private clinic in London Wednesday of acute leukaemia.

Shortly after the return of body, the funeral procession slowly moved out from the tarmac along the 15-mile road lined by some thousands of sobbing Malaysians to his official residence.
