  • Description

Pakistan President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and his wife Begum Nosrat Bhutto received one of Iran's most lavish welcomes when they flew into Teheran airport on Thursday (11 May) for a five-day state visit.

They were met by the Shah, Empress Farah, Prime Minister Amir Abbas Hoveida, and senior public figures.

The discussions between the two leaders will be the fourth exchange between them since President Bhutto took office in December 1971.

The emphasis of their talks will be on extending military co-operation. The Shah has expressed concern at the growth of the Soviet Union's Power following treaties with India and Iraq.

The President and his wife drove from the airport to the flower-decked city centre in state coaches. On Saturday they flew to Southern Iran.
