Emperor Hirohito welcomed Rumanian President ??? Ceausescu the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on Friday (4 April).
President Ceausescu -- who was starting a six-day state visit -- later met Japanese Prime Minister Takoo Miki, during which he was believed to have discussed increasing trade between the two countries.
Japan exported goods worth about 166.2 million dollars (about 72.2 million pounds sterling) last year and imported loss than half of that amount from Rumania.
He was reportedly assured by Mr. Miki that Japan's imports from Rumania would increase after the re-opening of the Suez Canal, scheduled for June.
The Rumanian leader had also sought Japanese co-operation to implement his country's next Five-Year Plan starting in 1976. He was said to want help particularly in the petrochemical and precision-machinery industries.
