    THE GOVERNOR OF WEST PAKISTAN, MR. MOHAMMAD MUSA, FORMALLY INAUGURATED A 50,000 KILOWATT THERMAL POWER STATION ON THE RIGHT BANK OF THE INDUS RIVER IN SUKKUR, WEST PAKISTAN, ON WEDNESDAY. THE STATION, BUILT WITH CANADIAN AID, WILL CATER FOR POWER NEEDS WITHIN A RADIUS OF 70 MILES (113 KMS).

    THE POWER STATION IS SET ABOUT 500 MILES (800 KILOMETRES) SOUTH OF LAHORE, AND 300 MILES (480 KILOMETRES) NORTH OF KARACHI. THE FIRST UNIT THERE WAS COMMISSIONED IN MARCH, 1965.

    AMONG THE GUESTS AT THE INAUGURATION CEREMONY WERE THE CANADIAN MINISTER FOR INDUSTRY, MR. C. M. DRURY, AND MRS. DRURY, AND THE WEST PAKISTAN MINISTER OF POWER, MR. MAKHDOOM HAMEEDUDDIN. MR. DRURY SAID THAT IN THE CURRENT FINANCIAL YEAR, CANADIAN AID TO PAKISTAN WOULD REACH 36 MILLION DOLLARS, AS AGAINST 34.9 MILLION DOLLARS LAST YEAR.
