The roan antelope is one of the world's rarest antelopes. And it may soon be extinct. They are thought to be only about a hundred roan antelopes left in the whole of Africa. Some of them are in Kenya where the East African Wildlife Society are trying to round them up and transfer them to areas where they can survive.
Some eighteen months ago, twenty of the antelope were rounded in the Ithanga Hills and transferred to the Shimba Hills Reserve in South Eastern Kenya. But the antelope had to be trapped individually.
The new expedition used helicopters to heard the antelope into corrals. They captured an entire breeding herd of sixteen.
