Background: American journalists in Iran have been packing their cases. After Oil Minister Ali Akbar Moinfar's announcement last Sunday (14 January) that all American journalists were to be expelled from Iran for their publications of alleged false reports, the correspondents of the U.S. television networks, newspapers and magazines packed up their pens and cameras for the journey back to the United States.

SYNOPSIS: This ultra modern electronic news gathering equipment belongs to America's national Broadcasting Company, but after the government's expulsion order it had to be put back in its boxes and shipped home.

An official Revolutionary Council statement explained why the Iranians don't want the American media reporting from their country anymore, the Statement said the American press had reported 'bad propaganda' from Iran. It said the government did not deem it necessary to put up with foreign journalists any longer because of distorted news about Iran, insults on the Islamic revolution and Iran's national sanctity.

The expulsion order concerned about half of Teheran's foreign news staff, most of the others received a stern Warning. But for America's media there was little else to do but leave.
