    British driver John Surtees won the Syracuse Formula One motor racing Prix in a Ferrari yesterday (Sunday).

    Surtees, driving a new eight cylinder Ferrari, had over half a minute to spare over the second man, Ferrari teammate Lorenzo Bandini of Italy. Surtees clocked one hour 19 minutes 51.8 seconds for the 220 kilometre (136 1/2 mile) race. His average speed was 165.2 kilometres an hour.

    This was the thirteenth time the Syracuse Grand Prix had been run. It is 40 laps of the Syracuse circuit.

    Other placing were: third: Pete Arundel of England in a Lotus; fourth: Bonnier of Sweden; fifth: Chris Amon of Britain in a Lotus-B.R.M.; sixth: Masten Gregory, of the United States in a B.R.M.; and seventh: Mike Hailwood, Britain's World Motor Cycle Champion, in a Lotus-B.R.M.

    The race does not count in the world drivers' championship.
