  • Description

Portuguese airports re-opened for international flights on Sunday (April 28) after being closes since the previous Thursday's coup.

The new ruling Military Junta announced the re-opening in a broadcast.

Two Portuguese airline flights had landed in Lisbon on Saturday (April 27) from Johannesburg and Lourenco Marques, but on Sunday outgoing services were also resumed.

Broadcast instructions were issued to thousands of travellers, many of them foreign tourists to get to Lisbon, Faro and other airports at least two hours before their flights's re-scheduled departure time.

Immigration and customs formalities would be handled by military personnel.

Banks were opening in Lisbon on Monday (April 29) for three hours only but the Lisbon Stock Exchange remains shut.
