    CUBAN EXILE LEADER MANUEL RAY (PRONOUNCED RYE IN SPANISH) WAS AMONG EIGHT PERSONS CAPTURE BY THE BRITISH WHILE APPARENTLY PLANNING A RAID ON CUBA. THEY WERE PICKED UP BY THE BRITISH DESTROYER DECOY AT ANGUILLA KEY MONDAY (1 JUNE) WHILE LOADING AMMUNITION. ANGUILLA KEY IS IN THE BAHAMAS, 30 MILES NORTH OF CUBA.

    ARMS AND A THOUSAND ROUNDS OF AMMUNITION WERE CAPTURED. EARLY REPORTS WERE CONFLICTING AS TO WHETHER RAY WAS AMONG THE MEN TAKEN. HE WAS USING THE ASSUMED NAME OF MANUEL MARTINEZ AND HIS COMPANIONS TRIED TO PROTECT HIM FROM THE CAMERAS. ALSO IN THE GROUP WERE TWO AMERICAN FREE LANCE PHOTOGRAPHERS, ANDREW ST. GEORGE AND THOMAS DUNKIN.

    THE GROUP WAS TAKEN TO MAGISTRATE'S COURT IN NASSAU AND CHARGED WITH ILLEGAL ENTRY AND WITH BRINGING IN ARMS WITHOUT PERMISSION. EACH FINED FIVE POUNDS (14 DOLLARS) AND ORDERED DEPORTED TO MIAMI, FLORIDA (SOUTHEASTERN U.S.).
