  • Description

In Amman yesterday (Monday) a group of Jordanian women staged a hunger strike in the grounds of the Red Cross building, demanding Red Cross intervention on behalf of Arabs held prisoner by Israelis.

Several days ago women held a silent march through the streets of the Jordanian capital and afterwards handed a list of demands to the Red Cross representative.

Now they staged a hunger strike to back up their earlier demands.

A statement issued by a group called Women in Jordan calls on the Red Cross to expose what it refers to as the "real situation of the prisoners" and the alleged breaking of the Geneva Convention by authorities in Palestine.

The Palestinian Red Crescent, the Arab organisation similar to the Red Cross, says in a statement that Israelis have been using force to make prisoners end hunger strikes.
