Background: Before dawn in Adelaide today - and although many of these teenagers had been waiting for up to sixty hours, there was still plenty of life in them. They were waiting to buy tickets for performances by the Beatles. For a few, the waiting was too much...

Despite the long wait, the queue was orderly when the box offices opened in Adelaide this morning. At A36 shillings a ticket, hundreds of pounds changed hands. And the fans were delighted. Altogether, twelve thousand tickets were on sale and they were sold out by noon.

It's estimated that about five thousand Beatle fans were waiting when the two box offices opened in Adelaide this morning, leaving behind them a trail of litter from their long wait.
