    UNITED NATIONS AUTHORITIES IN KOREA ON WEDNESDAY LODGED A STRONG DEMAND THAT NORTH KOREA RETURN TWO AMERICAN PILOTS WHO, THE U.N. SAYS, WHERE FORCED DOWN BY NORTH KOREAN GUNFIRE WHILE FLYING HELICOPTERS ON A ROUTINE INSPECTION OF THE BUFFER ZONE. THE TWO AMERICANS, CAPTAIN BEN STUTTS, AGED 30, AND CAPTAIN CHARLETON VOLTZ, AGED 26, BELONGED TO THE 55TH U.S. AVIATION COMPANY NOW STATIONED IN KOREA.

    ACCORDING TO THEIR COMMANDING OFFICER, A UNITED NATIONS OBSERVATION POST SOUTH OF THE DEMILITARISED ZONE SAW THE HELICOPTERS BROUGHT DOWN BY GUNFIRE FROM THE NORTH. BOTH LANDED SAFELY TO BE TAKEN BY NORTH KOREAN TROOPS. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED LAST FRIDAY (MAY 17).

    THE DEMAND FOR THE AMERICANS' RETURN WAS MADE AT A MEETING IN PANMUNJOM OF THE U.N. MILITARY ARMISTICE COMMISSION, LED BY MAJOR -GENERAL CLOUD. BUT THE NORTH KOREAN MEMBER, MAJOR-GENERAL CHUNG HAN CHANG, REFUSED TO MAKE ANY REPLY.
