  • Description

Quadruples, all boys, were born to margaret Guinnane - who emigrated from Manchester, England, to the United States of America - in Providence Hospital, Detroit, October 23. The babies were born within the space of six minutes.

Born six weeks prematurely, they were placed in incubators. Latest report: they were "doing well". They were baptised immediately by hospital chaplain, Father J. Leo Healy, and their names are: Peter, Paul, Vincent and Gerard. Vincent is the smallest - weighing only 2 lbs 15 ozs - and Gerard is named after his 29-year-old father. The babies have light brown hair.

Their parents already have two other boys - Anthony, aged 7, and Stephen, aged 5. Although Mrs. Guinnane wanted "at least one girl", she said four mor boys were "just lovely".

The mother, aged 30, married Gerard Guinnane, a GBP25-a-week engineer, in Manchester in August 1952; and then went to America. Her husband got a pay increase of GBP2.17 when his employer heard that quadruplets were on the way.
