  • Description

THE BRITISH BLUESTREAK ROCKET HAD ITS SECOND SUCCESSFUL LAUNCHING ON OCTOBER 20 -- AND UNLIKE THE FIRST ONE IN JUNE REACHED THE TARGET AREA AS PLANNED. HER'S THE SCENE OF THE LAUNCHING AT WOOMERA ROCKET RANGE. ALL THE PREPARATIONS FOR THE COUNT-DOWN WENT SMOOTHLY AND CONDITIONS FOR THE LAUNCHING WERE WELL-NIGH PERFECT.

THERE WERE THE FINAL SECONDS: AND THEN THE BLAST-OFF. IT MADE A SPECTACULAR AND BRILLIANT PICTURE. THE BLUESTREAK -- 70 FEET HIGH AND WITH A TAKE-OFF WEIGHT OF 92 TONS -- ROSE STEADILY FROM THE LAUNCHING PAD. FOR THE SCHEDULED TWENTY SECONDS THE ROCKET ROSE VERTICALLY.

BLUESTREAK IS NOW BEING TESTED AS A FIRST-STAGE BOOSTER FOR A THREE-STAGE SATELLITE LAUNCHER FOR THE EUROPEAN LAUNCHER DEVELOPMENT ORGANISATION, WHICH HOPES TO PUT A SATELLITE INTO ORBIT LATE IN 1966.
