Background: Prince Mahmoud Namouk, a cousin of the former King Farouk of Egypt, appeared for retrial at a Cairo Military Court November 10.
Prince Namouk was sentenced earlier this year in his absence to 15 years' imprisonment for allegedly participating in a plot to overthrow President Nasser. He was extradited from Iraq where he had been granted political asylum last year, then was arrested in Baghdad soon after the July coup and handed over to the Egyptian authorities.
