SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOW AT HARVARD UNIVERSITY SINCE 1949, PROFESSOR VON BEKESY WAS AWARDED THE PRIZE - WORTH APPROX GBP17,870 IN CASH - FOR HIS DISCOVERIES OF THE PHYSICAL MECHANISM OF STIMULATION WITHIN THE COCHLAE, THE SPIRAL CAVITY OF THE INNER EAR, MADE 33 YEARS AGO.
