    Fiji has decided to refuse French naval ships and military aircraft connected with nuclear tests in the Pacific the use of Fijian facilities in protest at the forthcoming tests.

    The decision, announced by Fiji's Prime Minister Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara, comes at the same time as a demonstration by Fijian people against the French programme.

    France has not yet revealed when its next nuclear test will take place, pleading military secrecy.

    In the Fijian capital of Suva, demonstrators marched on Monday (12 June) with slogans, banners and placards calling for France to reverse her decision.

    The protests also co-incided with the adoption of a resolution at the United Nations environment conference in Stockhom condemning the tests.

    Demonstrators mingles with native dancing girls in the main streets of Suva amid gay decorations arranged for the South Pacific Festival -- an annual tourists attraction.
