TRANSCRIPT: ARCHBISHOP: SEQ 9: "What God has done here in three quarters of a century is miraculous and quite extraordinary Initially in the south of the Ivory Coast and then throughout the county, the Church has created schools which have given our sons and daughter human knowledge and have taught them to become proud and free citizens. There are 600,000 Catholics here representing 12 per cent of the Ivorian population, hundreds of Catechists, and may more active lay people some of whom have made a name for them-selves on an international level. To this one ought to add more than 60 Ivorian priests as well as four bishops as of this moment, with a fifth one to join them soon, to whom the Pope has entrusted the responsibility and direction of our Church. Moreover, there is the young congregation of Notre Dame de la Paix (the cathedral in Abidjan) with its 38 nuns and with the many major tasks it is undertaking in the service of the country and of God."
