Background: Israeli and Syrian forces exchanged tank and artillery fire for over sight hours on the Golden Heights for the 30th successive day on Thursday (April 10).

Israeli soldiers were eating a special lunch in their bunker at Chan Arnabe for the Jewish festival of Passover when the customary duel started up. They dashed out into the rain and fired off their 175 mm. guns.

After the firing, a Syrian military spokesman claimed that the Syrian guns had blown up several ammunition dumps, destroyed military installations and killed some Israelis.

According to the Syrian Arab News Agency, a senior United Nations officer had a narrow escape on Wednesday when Israeli shells exploded close to him.
