  • Description

Seven hundred paintings from the Louvre, Paris, - removed to places of safety soon after World War Two began - have recently been returned and placed on exhibition again in seven new galleries at the Louvre.

The paintings, representing all schools before 1800, were dispersed throughout France. They include Rembrandt's "Jeune Homme an Baton" and "Portrait de Titus"; van Dyck's "Le Christ Pleure par la Vierge et les anges", and two works by Rubens - "Elevation on croix" and "Thomyris Reine des Scythes fait plonger la tete de Cyrus dans un vase rempli de sang", one of the most notable of the pictures now restored to the Louvre.
