    THROUGHOUT THE PAST WEEK (8 NOVEMBER - 16 NOVEMBER), AN EXHIBITION WAS HELD AT THE HOTEL IVOIRE AT ABIDJAN SHOWING THE WORK OF SCULPTOR AND PAINTER MICHEL MANINI. MANY OF HIS ORIGINAL CREATIONS ARE COMPOSED OF OBJECTS AND MATERIALS IN EVERYDAY USE.

    MR. MATTHIEU EKRA, MINISTER OF INFORMATION IN THE IVORY COAST GOVERNMENT, WAS PRESENT ON THE OPENING DAY.

    THE MINISTER CONGRATULATED THE ARTIST ON HIS ACHIEVEMENTS AND WISHED HIM EVERY SUCCESS IN HIS WORK.

    MICHEL MANINI DERIVED INSPIRATION FOR HIS SCULPTURES OF IMAGINARY ANIMALS AND BIRDS, MADE OF WOODEN COMBS, STICKS AND SIMILAR OBJECTS WHEN HE CREATED THE HERO OF A CHILDREN'S TELEVISION PROGRAMME: A PUPPET MADE FROM A GOURD.

    HIS PAINTINGS AND COLLAGES ARE MAINLY OF BIRDS AND FISH - DREAMLIKE CREATURES, SOME PAINTED IN OILS, OTHERS COMPOSED FROM FRAGMENTS OF FABRIC AND CARDBOARD.

    THE EXHIBITION WAS WELL ATTENDED. AMONG THE VISITORS WERE PROMINENT POLITICIANS AS WELL AS ARTISTS, TEACHERS OF ART AND OTHER PUBLIC FIGURES.
