  • Description

Members of the Arab League gathered in Tunis on Tuesday (18 September) to discuss mainly finance and administrative matters. Their discussions are scheduled to last five days and the chairman is Iraq's deputy Foreign Minister Abdel Hassine El-Jammali.

SYNOPSIS: League delegates met in the Palace of Congress. It was the seventy-second session since the League's foundation, and Iraqi deputy foreign minister Abdel Hassine El-Jammali was chairman. Tunisia was hosting the League meeting for the second time, following the suspension of Egypt because of its peace treaty with Israel.

Before the delegates was a programme primarily financial and administrative masters. One of the main resolves came from the League's Information Committee of Six. President of the Committee Mohamed Abdou Yamani, of Saudi Arabia, announced a scheme to improve the international image of the Arab world.

Missing from the delegates were the Egyptians. Although Cairo used to host the Arab League sessions, Egypt was suspended from the League in nineteen-seventy-eight after it signed the peace treaty with Israel. One of the Information Committee's decisions was to launch a campaign against "Zionist propaganda".
