Foreign Minister Dr. Rudolf Kirchschlaeger, speaking before the General Assembly, warned against interference in his country's internal affairs. Nobody, he said, could profit from a campaign against Austria.

Dr. Kirchschlaeger was reacting to criticism of Chancellor Bruno Kreisky's offer to close Schoenau, in return for the safe release of four hostages seized in Vienna by Arab guerrillas on September 28. The Austrian Foreign Minister explained that his Government regarded the saving of human life as "the overriding objective which transcends all others." He added: "My Government is convinced that terrorists are not encouraged by the fact that a Government is not prepared to sacrifice human lives."
And Dr. Kirchschlaeger confirmed that his Government had left the door wide open for any future talks on humanitarian questions.
