Large crowds welcomed Dr. Manuel Prado, the President of Peru, when he arrived at Taipei May 23 for a State visit to Formosa.
The President, who was accompanied by his wife and daughter and Perusian officials, was greeted at the military airport by the Chinese Nationalist Leader, President Chiang Kai-shek and his wife. A twenty-one gun salute greeted the party and a smart guard of honour was presented by Chinese troops. After meeting dignitaries. President Prado left the airport in a motorcade for the Grand Hotel.
Later in the day, President Chiang Kai-shek and his wife called on the visiting President at his hotel. The first day's functions ended in a state dinner given in honour of Dr. Prado.
During his stay in Formosa, President Prado was expected to visit the Southern Islands and watch military manoeuvres.
