  • Description

America's space trio, Alan Shepard, Stuart Roosa and Edgar Mitchell are now on their way home to earth after making a first attempt "hard-docking" with the Apollo 14 Command Ship. The docking device functioned perfectly. There had been fears for a repetition of the docking trouble on the outward-bound manoeuvre. Alan Shepard, the 47-year-old expedition leader, had returned to the Antares moonship some hours before after he and Mitchell had undertaken the most strenuous lunar surface programme to date. Shepard, however was not too tired to become the first moon golfer. He produced two golf balls and, using the handle of the moon cart, hit the longest drive in the history of golf (due to the lunar gravitational pull being one-sixth of that on earth) on the dustiest, bumpiest fairway ever played.

The accompanying film includes a sound track of the conversations between the astronauts and the Houston Space Flight Control Centre.
