Background: Brazilian racing driver Emerson Fittipaldi strengthened his lead in the current world championships by winning the "Rothmans 50,000" at brands hatch in Britain on Monday (August 28). Driving his John Player Special Lotus, he took the lead from the start and maintained it throughout the 118-lap, 312-mile(502-kilometres) contest. It was his fourth successive win.
At the end, only one of his 29 rivals was on the same lap count -- second-placed Brian Redman of Britain, in a Yardley-McLaren. Third in the multi-class race was another formula one car - a March driven by Henri Pescarolo.
