  • Description

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman flew into London on Saturday (8 January) from West Pakistan, where he had been imprisoned before the Indo-Pakistani war as a leader of the people of East Pakistan.

Sheikh Mujib was met by a British Foreign Office representative and a diplomat from the Pakistan High Commission in London, but no immediate explanation was given for his departure from Pakistan and his presence in London.

From the airport, the Sheikh and his party drove to a hotel in central London. Later he gave a press conference and Visnews cameraman Bob Turner was there to record the event. Sheikh Mujib later drove to Downing Street for short discussions with British Prime Minister Edward Heath.
