    THE THREE LEASERS ALSO DECIDED TO SEND A LETTER TO THE UNITED NATIONS SECRETARY-GENERAL, U THANT, TO ASCERTAIN THE WISHES OF THE BORNEO PEOPLES "PRIOR TO THE ESTABLISHMENT OF MALAYSIA".MALAYA ALSO AGREED TO ASK BRITAIN IN TO CO-OPERATE IN "SEEKING A JUST AND EXPEDITIOUS SOLUTION" TO THE PHILIPPINES CLAIM TO NORTH BORNEO.

    IN A JOINT COMMUNIQUE, THE THREE HEADS OF GOVERNMENT AGREED THAT FOREIGN BASES (BRITISH IN MALAYA (AND UNITED STATES IN PHILIPPINES) WHICH ARE TEMPORARY IN NATURE SHOULD NOT BE USED "DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY" TO SUBVERT THE NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE OF ANY OF THE THREE COUNTRIES.

    THE COMMUNIQUE STIPULATES THAT WHEN U THANT CARRIES OUT HIS ASCERTAINMENT OF THE WISHES OF THE BORNEO PEOPLE, HE SHOULD TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THE RECENT ELECTIONS IN NORTH BORNEO AND SARAWAK.

    THE THREE LEADERS EXPRESSED THEIR DETERMINATION "IN THE COMMON INTEREST OF THEIR COUNTRIES" TO MAINTAIN FRATERNAL RELATIONS AND PROMOTE ECONOMIC PROGRESS AND SOCIAL WELL-BEING IN THE REGION.

    THEY BELIEVE THE SUMMIT HAS STRENGTHENED THE FRATERNAL TIES BINDING THE THREE COUNTRIES.NEARLY 600 PEOPLE WITNESSED THE SIGNING OF THE DOCUMENTS IN THE LUNA HALL OF THE FOREIGN MINISTRY BUILDING.
