    Background: INTRODUCTION: Motor racing...and the American driver, Bob Earl, won the Macao Grand Prix on Sunday (15 November).He was driving a Hayashi Toyota.

    SYNOPSIS: This was the 28th Macao Grand Prix, and was billed by organisers as the leading motor racing event in Asia.Twenty-five drivers were originally scheduled for the event, including the Formula One champion, Alan Jones.But business matters kept him at home in Australia, and he was replaced by the 22-year-old Brazilian Roberto Moreno.

    With the race under way, the drivers were soon jockeying for position.

    Before long, Bob Earl had the lead.Racing through the bends in his Hayashi Toyota, he strengthened his advantage.

    The American driver built up his lead with hard driving along the straight.His rivals were Moreno and defending champion Geoff Lees of Britain, both driving Ralt RT 4's sponsored by Marlboro - Theodore Racing.But in spite of their efforts, the race belonged to Bob Earl's Toyota, sponsored by the Vessel Racing team.

    In the end, Earl's win was convincing.

    Finally, the victory ceremonies, with Bob Earl on the rostrum.Second was Nayshiro Fujita of Japan, in a March Toyota, and third Ray Mallock of Britain, in a Ralt RT 4.
